John Macdonald, Inverness, was a champion piper who linked the 19th century tradition of piobaireachd playing to the 20th. Recognised as a leading tradition bearer, he was dedicated to passing on the knowledge he learned from old masters such as Calum ‘Piobair’ Macpherson, to the next generation of pipers. He was the chosen instructor for the newly-founded Piobaireachd Society (1903) and was the first instructor at the Army Class (1910), the forerunner to today’s Army School of Piping.
This book has unique archive material concerning John Macdonald, including his never before published manuscript book of tunes. A range of photographs and personal correspondence from the maestro himself make this a unique publication.
