Aims and scope
Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics covers all aspects of the graphic novel, comic strip and comic book focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries. The emphasis is on the production and consumption of comics in their cultural, institutional and creative contexts.
The journal aims to reflect not only standard forms such as the superhero and other genres of the comic book, but also the increasing interest in modern forms and emerging genres of the comic, for instance, medicine, psychology and, autobiography. Our scope is international, covering not only English language comics but also worldwide comic culture, recently featuring articles about European, Indian, Japanese and Korean comics. We would like to extend into other comic cultures in Australia, Africa, South America and Scandinavia.
We are interested in the production and consumption of comics and their context within culture and the mass media, for instance within promotional culture, digital technologies and fandom. The journal aims to reflect and encourage the widest breadth of approaches to the comic, as a mass medium, and its associated forms.
Here at Perkology we still manually inspect and grade each and every book that comes into our warehouse to ensure that you know exactly what to expect when you receive your second hand book.
The criteria that we use to grade used books are as follows:
Like New: an apparently unread copy in perfect condition. Dust cover is intact with no nicks or tears. Spine has no signs of creasing. Pages are clean and not marred by notes or folds of any kind. Books may contain a remainder mark on an outside edge, but this should be noted in the listing comments. Any accompanying CDs or DVDs must be present.Very Good: a copy that has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Any accompanying CDs or DVDs must be present.
Good: a copy that has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact (including the dust cover, if applicable). The spine may show signs of wear. Pages can include limited notes and highlighting, and the copy can include "From the library of" labels. Books may have any accompanying access codes for additional or replacement content missing or redeemed.
Acceptable: a readable copy. All pages and the cover are intact (the dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes – in pen or highlighter – but notes cannot obscure the text. Books may have any accompanying access codes for additional or replacement content missing or redeemed.
